October 19, 2020How to make Work from Home more Effective
Because of a Virus outbreak, work from home is
a growing trend in today’s work environment, in which employees can easily
plug-in from just anywhere they are. The policy defines the expectations,
responsibilities, the eligibility and the other work from home guidelines. In
short, it ensures that all employees understand what is required of them when
they choose to work from home. You save time
not commuting, you can work in your lowers, and on top of that, there’s a
range of free tools and apps that make keeping in touch with clients and
colleagues a breeze. But you’ll also know how challenging it can be to work
efficiently. If you aren’t careful, domestic duties and distractions can cause
you to accomplish far less than you planned.
Here are few tips for working from home more efficiently.
FORMAL DRESSING
We suggest keeping your regular routine when working from home.
Dress just as you would for the office. Even if you won’t be meeting with
clients/ colleagues all day, wearing your pyjama’s can make you feel sleepy and
unmotivated. This helps you to prepare psychologically for work and makes it
seem like another day in the office.
A DEDICATED WORKSPACE
You must carry a dedicated room/space/desk. This helps signal to
your brain that it’s time for work and will help you feel more alert and
organized.
PLAN YOUR WORKFLOW
Working from home can be tough, but there are ways to be productive. One helpful resource is a book called "Getting Things Done" by David Allen. It gives tips on how to work efficiently and effectively from home. The author suggests a simple rule: when you have tasks to do, you can either do them right away, give them to someone else to do, delay them for later, or decide not to do them at all. This rule can help you manage your email inbox, set goals, and plan your work schedule.
To make the most of your day, it's recommended to divide it into different time blocks and plan what you will do during each block. For example, you could allocate one block for answering emails, another for working on a specific project, and so on. It's also important to take regular breaks to rest and recharge. By following these strategies, you can boost your productivity and get a lot more done while working from home.
PUT THINGS BACK WHERE THEY BELONG
When you work from home, Putting things back
where they belong is more of a regular event. The idea is to leave your
immediate area, workspace, or workstation in a clean and orderly fashion. It helps to take your mind off work and gets you up and moving
around.
BE CONVERSANT
Working in an office is the potential for collaborating and
socializing with others. Like, Google famously offers its employees free food.
Long lunch lines and plenty of dining tables help great conversations to
flourish and this inspires innovative thinking. We suggest that you check in
with your colleagues every once in a while. There are many great tools for
staying in touch via video calls with your team/colleagues.
MANAGE DIGITAL DISTRACTIONS
It’s a lot easier to get distracted at home when there are no
eyes on your screen except your own. However, digital distractions such as
notifications and the temptations of checking out social media need to be kept
in check sometimes. If you feel like the temptation is too strong, we recommend
proactively limiting screen time for certain websites or applications.
SEPARATE YOUR WORK TIME AND YOUR PERSONAL TIME
If you have a strong work ethic, you may feel guilty about
working from home and feel the need to over-prove yourself by working harder or
longer. This is a big no-no; working from home is still a normal workday, it’s
just from a different location. When it’s the end of your workday, just stop.
Keep a good work-life balance and call it quits for the evening instead of
burning the midnight oil.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO STAY HOME IF YOU DON’T WANT TO
Unless you’re in quarantine, there’s no rule that says you have
to stay at home all of the time. Try to mix things up and take a break once in
a while. There are plenty of possibilities such as coffee shops, libraries, and
even co-working spaces that you can try.
